We are happy to announce that Kendra Terrazas is our Music Student of the Month. Kendra joined Charter Oak Cultural Center, City School of the Arts Brass Band this summer, where she played flute in the Brass Band Camp. She is back this fall with their Brass Band.
“Kendra is a very kind person who is willing to help others in the band," said a Brass Band staff member. "She is respectful and has a great work ethic.”
Kendra is 17 and is a senior at Hartford Magnet. She enjoys playing many instruments and has been playing the flute in the Brass Band.
Her favorite thing about Brass Band is the teachers. She says they are patient, kind, funny, and calming when she is stressed. She also has bonded with other members of the Band.
Kendra enjoys playing the flute. She likes the sound which she describes as melodizing and flowy. It’s a difficult instrument and she likes the challenge. She also plays the cello at school.
Music is calming for Kendra. She says music has a feeling to it and is important to her life.
Performing in her first 6th grade concert was a pivotal experience for her. Playing music with her friends while having an audience listening and being moved by the music was magical and a cherished memory.
Being in the Brass Band has inspired her to create her High School Capstone project about music education. She will conclude her project with a concert.
Her favorite subject is English literature and creative writing. She loves to read and write while listening to music.
Future plans include becoming a Pediatric Certified Nurse Assistant and someday a Pediatric Nurse. She also wants to join a Community Symphony Orchestra and learn how to play clarinet and piccolo.
Good luck to Kendra!
