Elijah Hill is a Marching Crusader with The Roots of Music in New Orleans. He's in 3rd grade and has been playing the trombone for two years.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Who nominated you? How long have you been playing your instrument?

My name is Elijah Hill and I was born in Charlotte, NC but I have been living in New Orleans since I was a baby. When I was 3, my parents bought me a drum set because I always watched videos of drummers and drumming on my basketballs in the house. I love music and I am currently playing the trombone since joining The Roots of Music program almost two years ago. I was nominated by my band director, Mr. Darren Rodgers.

What has music and your program taught you?

Being a part of Roots of Music has taught me the importance of being disciplined and focused so that I can get better and better at playing the trombone.

What is your favorite piece of music to play?

I have two favorite pieces of music that I love to play: Torture and Dreamin’.

What do you like to do for fun? Do you have any hobbies?

I love playing Fortnight on my Nintendo Switch as well as collecting and trading Pokemon cards.

What is your favorite subject in school? Why?

My favorite subject in school is math because it helps me to be a better musician.

What are your plans for the future?

I want to go to St. Augustine for High School and Southern University for College and I hope to become a musician.
