November Music Student of the Month

EmilyEmily Iniguez Ortega is our Music Student of the Month! Emily is a sophomore at JM Wright Technical High School and has been attending Project Music where she plays the flute.

Tell us about yourself.

Pedro Falcon nominated me for this award and I have been playing the flute since I was in 2nd grade the year 2017 - 8 years now.

Music in general has taught me that you are able to express yourself. No matter what you’re trying to say, there’s always a way to send that message. Whether it’s the type of genre or the lyrics or the beat, you can always create your own version and have fun with whatever you’re playing. Playing music and listening to music has brought me so many benefits to my body and brain and also to my mental health. My program has taught me that no matter where you are, you can always get better especially with all the help around you.

My favorite piece of music to play would be Entr’acte from Carmen by George Bizet.

Besides playing flute, when I have free time I try to take the time for myself and do things I enjoy like baking, spending quality time with family or friends, going out on walks, but usually I’m sleeping.

My favorite subject in school is English because I enjoy writing and it allows me to be creative in my own way.

My plan for the future is to go to college for interior design, take a real estate course, and minor in music.
