August Music Student of the Month

Jordan BrownCongratulations to Jordan Brown, our August Music Student of the Month. Jordan is a violinist and violist at Music Haven in New Haven, Connecticut, and has been playing for 12 years.

What has Music Haven taught you?

Music Haven has taught me that I need to work on my time management and really put in work to see satisfactory results.

What would you say to somebody who says classical music is dead and that young people aren't interested in it?

Open your eyes beyond what is pushed in front of everyone's faces today. Don't follow the things that people say are trends and find out how important and relevant it is in a lot of students today. Maybe it being "dead" is the problem with some young people today.

What advice would you give to beginners?

Find your own time to do things and make it fun! Learn as much as you can to better yourself as an artist.

What is your favorite piece of music to play?

My favorite piece I learned and played at Music Haven was either the pieces I've played at Point Counterpoint or the octet or the Shostakovich No. 8 playing it with the people I love.

What are your plans for the future?

After Music Haven, Jordan wants to attend medical school and/or residency.
