Music Empowers, Part II

In the last blog, I posited that “...music is personal. We have all been moved by music and empowered by music in ways we may not have considered.” Then I asked you to “think for a minute about the importance of music in your own story”. Well, that wasn’t a rhetorical question, and since I have been buttonholing some of my old friends and clients asking what “music empowers” means to them, I figure it’s only fair to share my own story.

August Music Student of the Month

Congratulations to Jordan Brown, our August Music Student of the Month. Jordan is a violinist and violist at Music Haven in New Haven, Connecticut, and has been playing for 12 years.

Music Empowers: Our Path Forward

I'm honored to address you directly, for the first time, as the new Executive Director of SpreadMusicNow. I’m not going to take up your time telling you about me or the last 25 years I spent in the music industry (the last blog announcing my hire did that). Instead, I’m going to tell you about where we’re headed as an organization, with the hope that you’ll feel not only inspired to continue your support, but to perhaps even double down and help spread the word.

July Music Student of the Month

Marcuz Iloeje is our July Music Student of the Month! In addition to being an accomplished guitar student at Charter Oak Cultural Center, he's also a pianist, a geography expert, a comic book author, and a soccer star.

June Music Student of the Month

Congratulations to Daniela Carias! Daniela is our June Music Student of the Month and was nominated by Calida Jones, Director of Development and Advocacy at PROJECT MUSIC.

From The Music Industry to Music Philanthropy

We’re thrilled to announce Tom Baggott as our new Executive Director. Taking the reins as Executive Director of SpreadMusicNow is no small task. The job calls for someone who understands the power of music education, has a passion for philanthropy, and can bring diverse groups together towards a common cause. But to hear Tom say it, his arrival at SpreadMusicNow was simply the natural culmination of his life's work.

May Music Student of the Month

Jeferson Cardenas of INTEMPO is our May Music Student of the Month! Congratulations, Jeferson!

April Music Student of the Month

We are happy to announce that Amanda Eneh from Charter Oak Cultural Center is our April Music Student of the Month!

March Music Student of the Month

Congratulations to Mariangel Letriz, a violin student from Music Haven and our March Music Student of the Month!

Music Empowers Action and Compassion from CT to NOLA

Living out its mission to ensure that every child has access to music education, SpreadMusicNow recently partnered with the Preservation Hall Foundation to coordinate an instrument donation to students in the Travis Hill School at the Youth Study Center, a juvenile detention facility in New Orleans. The instruments were generously donated by Connecticut music store owners Tom and Cathy Zamecnik and their Clinton Music Center.
